Update

6 years since my last wheelchair adventure, a lot has happened it the last 6 years so this is a quick catch up.

2016 -2017

Separated from Chris and moved to Mid Wales (Llandrindod Wells) had a nice flat, took up playing in door bowls, turns out I was not too bad at it and got picked to play for Wales disability bowls it the tri nations (Wales, England and Scotland) we lost, and England won.

Playing bowls at club level was great fun and I made a lot of friends.
I was getting out a lot in my chair, used to love going to the dams and making videos.

Had two great carers while I was there Garath and Rebecca.

2018 did not start well as I had to stop playing for Wales disability bowls team due to me being silly and messing up my shoulders then in Feb back in hospital with a diverticulitis flare up, not long been home and had a stroke on the 3rd March.

That was fun waking up on my own to that, I had no use of my left arm, and the left leg was very weak, and I needed the loo….

Managed to get myself in my chair but with only one hand I went in circles but eventually made it.

Have you ever tried to tear loo paper with one hand…? You should try it.

I made it back to bed and dialled 999, I forgot about my mouth, she could not understand me and I got mad and hung up but I did calm down and made her understand.

Four days later and I am home.

Big thanks to my sister, stepdaughter and Garath for all the help and dealing with my frustrations.

There were a lot of times I wanted to give up, but I stuck with it and found ways to adapt to doing things. Its amazing what you can do if you have to

It took several months to get the use of my arm back little longer for the hand.

May back in hospital with diverticulitis flare up

July TIA stroke that’s when my daughter told me to move near to her (Christchurch) and that’s why I am here.

I had only been here two weeks and was back in hospital again with another diverticulitis flare up

Was happy when 2018 ended.

 2019/2020

Lots of ups and downs, had lots of prayers answered.

A big thank you to all the people at Christchurch Baptist Church for raising the funds for my new wheelchair

 2021

Went out in my chair on the 15 March for the first time in about 6 months took it slow for the first few weeks.

I went to Avon Park on April 17th was a nice sunny day. The path was made of lose stone and was not that easy to push, but me being me I went ahead. After some not to easy pushing, I came to a T junction, turn right and a nice down hill path or left a crappy path and uphill by this time my left arm was hurting so I should have turned right, but no not me, I go left, I wanted to see what was at the top.

I have never let pain stop me doing what I want, and I wanted to see what was at the top.

That was one very hard push, but I made it only to find nothing up there.

The push back was great fun as most of it was downhill.

The result of that little adventure was torn tendons in my left arm and hand and the only cure was rest, so spent the next several weeks in my electric chair.

June started going out again in the manual chair and have been slowly pushing more.

July, I have picked up the pace and now do 4/6 miles a day, have exercise routines at home.

So, what am I doing and why?

I need a reason to get out and push myself, I love being out in my chair pushing myself around its great for my physical and mental health and greatly reduces my pain so long as I am not silly.

So, the plan is to get fit enough to raise money for charity.

I was thinking of a 10K run on the 5th Sept but would not be ready in time and doing a race you have to do a certain pace and I cant do that, but I will be doing something this year, maybe a half marathon distance but at my pace.

Let the adventures begin.
